Fred Victor Centre Employment & Training Programs are here to help people meet their life goals. Whether it is becoming more involved in the community, earning a GED, going to college, or getting a job, we help people develop plans and realize their dreams. Staff in Employment & Training are able to communicate in Amharic, Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin), Dari, English, French, German, Russian, Sinhala, Tamil, and Tigrinya. We have Transgender/Transsexual/Two-Spirited people on staff/volunteers, and are a LGBT Safe Space.  To support Employment & Training Services at Fred Victor Centre please click here.

THRIVE!

Thrive offers those who identify as transgender, transsexual, two-spirited or gender-variant to focus on employment, life skills and housing issues. Thrive! & trans-only time takes place at the ERC on Mondays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This program is funded by the City of Toronto’s Homelessness Partnership Initiative, and is in partnership with The 519 Community Centre and Sherbourne Health Centre.  For more information contact 416-364-8986 William Hines - whines@fredvictor.org.

 ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES - BACK TO BASICS

Back-To-Basics provides adult learners with support while they work towards their educational goals, with one-on-one tutors or independently. We offer pre-employment and educational supports, offering skills upgrading from basic literacy to college-preparation in English, Computers, Math, Science, Adult Literacy and ESL. The General Educational Development (GED) program that is used at Back to Basics is an internationally accepted standard that prepares students for Ontario Secondary School Diploma equivalency. We assist with light job search and referral to job search supports. This program is funded by the City of Toronto’s Homelessness Partnership Initiative, and is in partnership with Metropolitan Toronto Movement for Literacy, The Toronto District School Board, George Brown College, and the Independent Learning Centre.

ONTARIO WORKS

CAREER DIRECTIONS & COMPUTER LITERACY

10 weeks (5 days/week and 4 hours/day)
Open to Ontario Works Clients only.
This program is suitable for individuals who have working experience and require assistance in career redirection and basic computer skills in the latest software programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Windows, Internet and Email). Participants will walk away having a clear career focus and a plan to achieve their own personal goals, as well as a solid understanding of the computer programs mentioned above. Participants will earn a George Brown College Computer Skills and Application credit through participation in this program. For more information, contact 416-364-8986 Ext.550 or

CAREER DIRECTIONS IN HOSPITALITY

10 weeks (5 days/week and 4 hours/day)
Open to Ontario Works Clients only.
This program is suitable for individuals who have an interest in the hospitality or food services industries. No previous experience is required as this program provides a thorough overview of the opportunities available. Certificates: First Aid/CPR, Food Handler, WHMIS. Participants will walk away having a clearer career focus and a plan to achieve their personal goals, as well as some basic computer skills. Some classes for Career Directions in Hospitality are given at other locations that are within walking distance of the ERC.  The program includes 16 hours of field placement at Fred Victor Centre's FRIENDS Restaurant. For more information, contact 416-364-8986 Ext.550 or

CAREER EXPLORATION

10 weeks location. (3 days of in-class/week and 4 hours/day, 1day for personal appointment)
Open to Ontario Works Clients only.
This program is suitable for individuals who face multiple barriers (addiction issues, mental health issues etc.) to the workforce and who require more individual support in preparing their employment action plan.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Community members who are looking to connect more with Fred Victor Centre, give back, learn new skills, or refresh their references are welcome to volunteer within Fred Victor Centre. Volunteer positions are available with a variety of programs. Depending on individual interests, abilities, and skills, volunteers will be placed within the agency. EMPLOYMENT RESOURCE CENTRE

The Employment Resource Centre is a vibrant, warm environment for people who need assistance with job search. It encourages job seekers to be self-reliant by providing information and products for use on a self-serve or minimal assistance basis. We provide free access to 24 computers/internet, photocopying, telephone, fax, employment resources, newspapers, magazines, books, and a video library. Each month, a unique set of workshops are offered to enhance members' skills in job searching, resume writing, small business development, interview skills, and self-development. One-to-one times are available to meet with an Employment Resource Specialist to discuss your goals, review  your resume, and help you create a plan. SOCIAL SERVICES CASEWORKERS

Each week, a caseworker from Metro Hall Social Services is on hand to answer questions from Employment Trainees and ERC job seekers.
